- Water Treatment Plant Superintendent

The Village of Maryville is seeking an experienced and dedicated Water Treatment Plant Superintendent to oversee the operation and maintenance of our Class B Water Treatment Plant and Sewage Lift Stations. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, providing safe and reliable drinking water to the community, and supervising plant operations and staff. This position reports directly to the Village Administrator.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct, supervise, and coordinate the daily operations of the Class B Water Treatment Plant.
Ensure compliance with Illinois EPA regulations, Safe Drinking Water Act requirements, Federal Regulations, Illinois Department of Public Health and all applicable health and safety standards.
Communicate plant conditions and issues to Village Administrator through logs, reports, emails or verbal briefings.
Coordinate with village officials, engineers, and contractors on infrastructure improvements.
Develop and manage the department budget, including planning for capital projects and equipment needs.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in the plant and surrounding facilities.
Monitor, analyze, and adjust treatment processes to maintain optimal water quality.
Monitor, operate, and adjust water treatment equipment to ensure proper flow, pressure, and chemical balance.
Maintain required treatment chemicals safely, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
Start up, shut down, maintain and troubleshoot treatment systems, including pumps, filters, and lift stations
Maintain accurate records and prepare regulatory reports, including monthly and annual submissions.
Oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of treatment equipment, pumps, and instrumentation.
Supervise, train, and schedule plant operators and support staff.
Respond to emergency situations such as power outages, equipment failures, or water quality concerns.
Stay current with new technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory updates.
Participate in continuing education and training to acquire and maintain required certifications and improve operational knowledge.
Requirements
Must hold a valid Illinois Class B Water Supply Operator Certification (or higher).
Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in water treatment plant operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role preferred.
Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, laboratory testing, pumps, controls, SCADA systems, sewer lift stations and mechanical/electrical systems.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies, receive after-hours phone calls and be on-call as required.
Valid Illinois driver's license.
This position is an exempt management position. Competitive salary based will be based on experience and is negotiable starting at $80k.
