Description
The Village of Mokena is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Wastewater Plant Mechanic within the Public Works Department. This is a skilled role involving maintenance, inspection, evaluation, and repair of equipment at the Village’s wastewater treatment facility, lift stations, and well houses.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, blowers, piping, and related apparatus.
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems including SCADA, VFDs, and other operator interfaces.
Conduct inspections and maintain records for wastewater and water pumping operations.
Lead and train subordinate staff in maintenance procedures.
Assist with departmental operations such as snow control and emergency responses as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum one to three years of experience in mechanical maintenance or similar technical training.
Valid Illinois Driver’s License required.
Class B CDL or Class C license preferred, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
Strong knowledge of motor controls, SCADA systems, electrical and mechanical repair.
Ability to lift/move up to 100 pounds and work in physically demanding outdoor and indoor environments.
Class 4 Wastewater Facility Operator’s certificate issued by the Illinois EPA or ability to obtain within one year is preferred.
Salary & Benefits:
Pursuant to the Local 150 Collective Bargaining Agreement, the starting annual salary is $88,636 with structured step increases and annual cost of living adjustments.
