Description
The Water Distribution Field Employee provides labor and assistance to the District Manager/Board of Trustees as needed to ensure water safety and quality. Key duties include but are not limited to routine meter reading, water quality sampling, asset location marking, GIS collection, and other general duties and special projects as instructed by the District Manager.
Requirements
Duties/Essential Job Functions:
- Read master meters daily.
- Collect and test water quality samples throughout the distribution system on a routine basis.
- Manage JULIE locate tickets, record keeping, and marking pertinent District assets.
- Collection locations of District assets for permanent record in GIS (Geographic Information System).
- Plan, self-perform or secure contractors, inspect and document repair work.
- May be responsible for other duties and projects as assigned by the District Manager/Board of Trustees.
Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Class D Water Operator's license within 24 months.
- Ability to learn the operation and maintenance of all equipment and procedures of the District.
- Some knowledge of general construction; should be mechanically inclined.
- Must be aware of and practice good safety habits and effectively utilize all safety equipment provided.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with customers, co-workers and other District employees.
- Physical ability to perform a wide variety of manual labor in a wide variety of inclement weather, especially as it relates to the back, legs and arms.
- Ability to maintain detailed records in inspections, water samples, system performance, maintenance, etc.
- Proficient in basic technology tools, including email communication, word processing, spreadsheets, and mobile technology for research and task management.
Desirable Training and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Vocational school and some experience with manual labor and driving a commercial motor vehicle is preferred.
- Experience operating pumps, valves, hydrants and similar equipment is preferred.
